    Verdict

A fascinating renewal, despite the small field. Third in the Derby here in 2021, Hurricane Lane went on to win the Irish Derby, Grand Prix de Paris and St Leger that year but ran only twice last season and was well beaten on his reappearance. However, he looked to be right back to his best in the Jockey Club Stakes at Newmarket. Point Lonsdale has won at the Curragh and at Chester this year but is upped in class and trip. Westover won the Irish Derby last year after finishing third in the Derby here earlier and ran a cracker in the Dubai Sheema Classic at Meydan in March while Tunnes was a Group 1 winner in Germany last season. EMILY UPJOHN was the moral winner of the Oaks here a year ago as she was only beaten a short-head having lost many lengths at the start. She easily landed the British Champion Fillies and Mares at Ascot in the autumn and should gain more Group 1 success this season.
