Verdict

SWEET LIGHTNING can strike, Manshoor is feared whilst Lake Poet - something of a standing dish here - should also be involved. Seeking The Buck won impressively on his return to racing on the level for a new yard and could well be up to defying a 7lb rise but he'll be short enough in the market given the impression he made at Newmarket. Foolin Myself has made an impression in the market but not on the track and has plenty to prove now as does William Blake who finished last season on a low but is attractively treated if back to his best. A case of sorts can be made for Ramona Chase but Lake Poet is sure to be popular following his second to Duncan; his last victory came in this race from a 1lb lower mark and he has shown that he retains all of his ability. Manshoor has done well for a shrewd yard at Lingfield but he appears to have more to offer as a handicapper and appeals as the type to do well here. The selection didn't enjoy the run of the race when behind Duncan in April but he ran on strongly once in the daylight. He had been well backed on his seasonal reappearance, suggesting that his connections felt he had improved over the winter. He's given that impression on the track too and a change of luck may be all that's required in order to see Sweet Lightning home in front.
