Verdict

EXPRESS LEADER can live up to his name here, with the main dangers expected to be Calaas and Perkin Warbeck. Paul Nicholls' gelding is making his hurdling debut, having previously been first and second in a couple of bumpers. We know he can jump being an Irish point-to-point winner, and he should be the one to catch here. The second placing at Cheltenham last time out was particularly impressive, with it being a Listed race and he was joint top weight in testing conditions. Calaas is having only his third outing, and after winning a bumper finished just outside the frame on his hurdling debut following a jumping mistake in soft ground. The firmer ground here may be to his advantage. Perkin Warbeck has been placed in all four starts to date; two of which have been over hurdles and a couple of bumpers. He's got an entry for a better race than this at Plumpton in a few days time. Several here have chances, but we think the one that sets the standard is Express Leader.
