Verdict
Despite the attractions of York, followers of Tony McCoy and Richard Johnson will be casting an eye over events at Exeter, and the duo's respective mounts here, Gebora and Mrs Philip, should go well, along with newcomer Johnny Oscar. The latter scored at Newmarket for James Fanshawe two years ago but has not managed to add to that in staying contests on the Flat. Maybe the change of code will revitalise him. Mrs Philip has shaped well on both starts to date, and was first past the post here on her last engagement in bumper company. Much to Richard Johnson's dismay however, she was demoted and placed second to Scamp, making Johnson wait a little longer for his 1000th career win. The man in the plate on Scamp was none other than Tony McCoy who rides Gebora here. Martin Pipe's four-year-old scored on his bumper debut at Folkestone when ridden by McCoy but has been ridden by different jockeys in two subsequent outings. He handled the fast conditions when second at Plumpton last time and is sure to have been well schooled for his timber debut. It should be a good battle between the two top jockeys but Gebora gets the nod.
