In depth

Verdict

Thornfield Clo can make the most of the weight that she receives from most of her rivals, including Quantum, Depressed and Penmara. Thornfiled Clo showed nothing in three runs last term, but improved out of all recognition when landing a Bath seller at the end of last month. Connections were keen to retain her at the subsequent auction, and their faith could well be vindicated as she tackles a trip more in keeping with her breeding. Off a low weight here, Richard Hannon's filly should be supported to follow up. Quantum ran a fine race at Yarmouth when third to Stepping Stones, and she should have no trouble picking up a small handicap. The dam is a half-sister to Footstepsinthesand, and John Gosden's inmate will enhance her paddock value if they can get a win into her. Depressed has plenty of weight for what she has achieved so far, while Penmara in contrast seems to be getting the hang of things but may need a step up to 12 furlongs to be seen to best effect. Thornfield Clo has found the winning thread and can score again in the finale.
