In depth

Verdict

Qualitair Wings is in good heart and is selected ahead of Lysandra and Magic Sting, while Burgundy goes well here and can never be confidently ruled out at this level. Burgundy does need to banish the memory of a poor effort last time, though, and needs a rattling pace to be seen at his best. Magic Sting was a convincing winner of that race last week and should make a bold bid to overcome his 6lb penalty. However, he will need to be at his very best on these terms and, as he is not really noted for consistency, he needs everything to fall into place for him. Lysandra is less exposed than a number of these and is better than her finishing position at Newcastle last month would have you believe. She has gone well for today's rider and can be a leading contender in this company. However, slender preference goes to Qualitair Wings, who is now on an attractive mark, acts on an undulating surface and, as a versatile horse regarding the ground, has plenty in his favour in tonight's opener.
