In depth

Verdict

A bit of a novelty race in reality and only a minimum stakes play is recommended with Annibale Caro, whose imperious trainer may again have an improving type on his hands for the remainder of the summer campaign. Great View, Cormorant Wharf and Explosive Fox are others to shortlist as dangers. Timmy Murphy knows Explosive Fox from his jumping exploits and the partnership have a solid chance of making the frame in this company. Murphy's skill in the saddle will be tested when push comes to shove though, as his mount is yet to win a Flat race on turf; although his All Weather form does entitle him to respect here. Cormorant Wharf is holding his form and comes here on the back of a profitable little spell. He will be suited by a touch of rain and can again make the rest aware of his presence. Great View will not be inconvenienced by the ground and having gone well here in the past, he can be relied upon to handle the track. He should be monitored closely in the betting. However, Annibale Caro makes a touch more appeal at this stage of their development and this son of Mtoto looks a typical product of Sir Mark Prescott's meticulous planning. He holds numerous entries over the coming week and should not be underestimated in his bid to get the ball rolling tonight. Jim Crowley's experience of the Flat is also a big factor in the game-plan.
