In depth

Verdict

This is a very tricky handicap chase with an abundance of moderate animals, so we select, with not too much confidence, Roman Consul to beat Usk Valley and Super Tip. Jonjo O'Neill's six-year-old has been quietly supported in his three hurdle races to date and has shown some ability. However chasing could be his game and we expect to see plenty of improvement. Usk Valley landed a couple of modest events during the summer and wasn't disgraced behind Big King in a better race than this at Newbury recently. Meanwhile Leith Hill Star managed to get her head in front over a longer trip here last time and shouldn't be inconvenienced by the drop in distance. Barton May and Ah Yeah are two others to consider, but in a very open affair Roman Consul is just given the nod.
