In depth
Verdict
The mares-only bumper can go to Lily Grey, with Elle Roseador, Alderbrook Girl, Ballyhoo, Friendly Girl and, possibly, Miss Trooper proving best of the rest. The selection has yet to see the racecourse but has French breeding that suggests she will be ok at this game. Her trainer also has a pretty good record in bumpers and, in what does not look to be a strong event, she looks to hold a solid chance although, of course, the betting will tell us more. Alderbrook Girl probably did not achieve too much when third at Folkestone on her racecourse debut but has the breeding to do better. Ballyhoo also showed some promise on her first run, while the locally-trained Diamond Song is one to have a look at in the betting. Elle Roseador has ability and has displayed ability on all three start but has been difficult to keep sound. Friendly Girl ran well for a long way last time in what was, overall, a better event than this, so she can go well, while Miss Trooper has shown enough in two starts to suggest that she might run well at a big price. The bottom line is, though, that on what we have so far seen, Lily Grey would not have to be out of the ordinary to score at the first time of asking and, accordingly, she gets the vote.
