In depth

Verdict

Victor Dartnall has his share of winners here and can add another to the roll of honour with Benetwood, who is taken to repel the challenges of The Real Deal, Reidwil and Killultagh Star. The selection carries a penalty for a soft ground course and distance win under Tony McCoy when last seen on the racecourse in November. J P McManus has entered him in the Brit Insurance Novices' Hurdle at the Festival and he will need to win this if he is to take his chance there. With the exception of a last hurdle blunder he jumped well last time and with his trainer more than likely to elicit improvement we will take him to succeed. The Real Deal is another decent sort and can go close. Nick Williams' six-year-old has to give 4lb to our selection after a Chepstow win last time and looks a thorough stayer, so he is not opposed lightly. Reidwil steps up in trip after a staying on second over 2m 1f at Lingfield last time and he looks certain to benefit from that and can improve as a result, while debutante Killultagh Star hails from a yard who know the time of day in this sort of contest and the market can give us a clue as to his chances. But Benetwood sets the standard here and gets the nod.
