In depth

Verdict

A slender vote of confidence goes to Sonny Santino, who is expected to have benefited from his debut run and can get the better of Celeritas. However, this could hardly be a more tricky race to assess, as several high profile yards send out interesting newcomers. These include: Bronzed and Racer Forever, who represent John Gosden, while Marcus Tregoning is also dually represented by Sir Percy and Mulaqat. Although it is fair to say that each will improve for the run, it would be folly to ignore any support in the market and a careful eye should be focused on the activities in the betting ring before the off. Davidia also represents a yard that does well with it's juveniles and he too should be noted with an eye to the future. Celeritas improved form his debut in the Brocklesby to finish second to a well regarded type at Newmarket last month. He needs to find more improvement but looks to be going the right way and can pick up a small prize before too long. However, there was a lot to like about the debut run from Sonny Santino, who finished well behind a couple of smart types at York last week. The Bertolini colt pulled readily clear of the remainder of the field on that occasion and created a very favourable impression. That is the best piece of form to go on and Sonny Santino looks the logical choice for now.
