In depth

Verdict

There should be more to come from Code Orange, who is selected ahead of Spirit Of Chester and Love Me Tender out of those with experience, while Downland and Rakata are interesting fillies for the future and are worth keeping tabs on from here. Rakata cost $90,000 and is a half-sister to a winner over ten furlongs in Japan. This trip could be on the sharp side for her and she made need more time. Downland hails from a yard that do well here and she is one to monitor for each-way support. Love Me Tender proved that she has trained on by going close at Lingfield earlier in the month. However, she does need to improve on that run in this company and could be vulnerable to a less exposed type. Similar comments apply to Spirit Of Chester, who has been absolutely clobbered by the handicapper and will be hard to place outside a race of this nature. However, she was highly tried last year and will appreciate this ease in grade. Nevertheless, Code Orange just edges preference on this occasion. John Gosden though very highly of the Green Desert filly and can be satisfied with the form of her two starts last term. Another year of strengthening will have done her no harm and Code Orange can get her campaign off to a flyer today.
