In depth

Verdict

Oldenway is taken to get the better of Norman Beckett and Reluctant Suitor in another tight contest. A winner in soft ground in May at Ayr, Norman Beckett is going into unchartered territory here in terms of the distance. He is consistent, but his effort over a mile and a half last time suggested that a drop back in distance may suit him better. Reluctant Suitor, a winner on fast ground at Musselburgh in April, will enjoy every yard of the trip and there are no stamina doubts here. A disappointing run last time can be put down to the ground and Reluctant Suitor has been eased a couple of pounds and he must go well. Wins at Yarmouth and Catterick showed Oldenway in good light and he is a very consistent type who rarely runs a bad race. He should be able to see out this trip and can return to winning ways. Oldenway can lead them home.
