          Verdict

          Dragon Slayer gained a deserved success when landing a Yarmouth handicap last month on his return to turf but has a career high mark to defy now and a better bet looks to be Smooth Jazz, who is preferred to Trouble Mountain. The last mentioned has been running well of late and should again be thereabouts but may prefer a softer surface, a comment that also applies to Walter Swinburn's Cool Hunter. Lucayan Dancer goes on any ground but the David Nicholls-trained gelding could probably do with some more help from the handicapper. Clive Cox has his string in good form so Thyolo has to be respected but needs to improve on recent evidence and of more interest may be Mick Channon's Active Asset, who belied his odds when a creditable third in Redcar's Zetland Gold Cup last time. The vote though goes to Smooth Jazz who was good value for his win at Bath last time and is taken to defy his penalty.
