In depth

Verdict

Some consistent performers line up here including Polish Corridor, McBain, and Analyze but the vote goes to Clarisse, who should appreciate the return to this trip and the faster ground today. The selection looked a filly to follow when winning at Bath in the spring but has failed to add to her success then but conditions are more suitable here and, having been given a chance by the handicapper, makes more appeal than many of her rivals. McBain has been a model of consistency of late but has gone up another 3lbs for his latest defeat and, along with Polish Corridor, may have to settle for minor honours again. Analyze does not know how to run a bad race and gained an overdue success when winning at Ayr last month but this is tougher. Paul Cole's Siena Star has to be respected but has to race off a 5lb higher mark than when winning at Leicester last time, while Willie Muir's Impeller has been raised 4lbs since scoring in a classified stakes race at Sandown last time. Dean Ivory's Jools has been well placed to win four of his last six starts and is another worthy of a mention along with the Peter Harris-trained Glimmer of Light but it is Clarisse that gets the vote.
