In depth

Verdict

An interesting novices' hurdle in prospect which should stand up to scrutiny if the form that links this race is anything to go by. The shortlist includes: Lotus Des Pictons, who got his act together well last time, Keepers Mead, who has shaped with plenty of promise to date, and The Grey Butler, who is surely much better than he showed when disappointing when he was last seen out. However, marginal preference is for the Henrietta Knight-trained Howrwenow, who reverts to hurdles after running into two very useful types over fences recently. The switch to timber should not be a problem for the son of Commanche Run as he has already shown that he knows what is required of him to win a race of this nature. Staying is obviously Howrwenow's forte and he could prove to be too resilient for a number of these today. Lotus Des Pictons has improved with each run on these shores and he could be the one to give the selection the most to do if he continues to progress here.
