In depth

Verdict

Lust is up 5lb for landing a Gowran maiden under Colin Keane but Ger Lyons puts up Sam Ewing on the beautifully-bred son of Fastnet Rock and his claim is a massive plus. The champion jockey rides Cosa Sara for Dermot Weld and his lightly-raced mount makes her handicap debut after some fair runs in maidens. After just failing to get up over 7f at Leopardstown, VOCITO stepped up to 1m2f at Cork and duly obliged. Dropping back won't be a problem and the in-form Jim Bolger puts up 7lb claimer Willie Byrne. The Piano Player didn't show much in 6f and7f maidens on testing ground in the autumn but the €300,000 son of No Nay Never was always likely to do better as a three-year-old, a remark that also applies to Emphatic Answer who is by the same sire. The trio at the bottom of the handicap are all capable of improving on last season's form.
