Verdict
Ashford Island sets the standard on the best of his recent form although he did disappoint the last day when producing a low-key effort after being supported into favouritism at Brighton. His two previous efforts at the coastal venue read well in the context of this race and he should go close dropped into selling grade for the first time. However, he is taken on with LAST STAR FALLING, below par the last twice but now dropping back to the 7f trip over which he's delivered his best form. Silvestre De Sousa is back riding after his ban and will be pleased to see he's retained the lead from Ryan Moore in the championship table after his enforced break. Smirnova, also back from a break, has shown more than enough in maiden company to suggest she'll get involved and is a rare runner in this grade for Marco Botti.
