Verdict
Tonight's Oadby card is more about quantity than quality. Savitsky is beginning to look exposed, but this won't take much winning and he should prove too strong for his rivals. Neville Callaghan's colt showed some useful form in the spring when not beaten far in what looked a couple of hot maidens at headquarters, going off a well backed favourite for the second of those. However, he caught a tartar that day in the shape of Lord Links, who hasn't been disgraced in better contests since. Sent north for what looked an easy opening, he again proved costly to follow, when beaten in what looked an average contest, having had the advantage of the favoured stands' side rail to race against. However, this looks his easiest task to date and he should make no mistake. The main threat could come from Lupine Howl, who shaped with promise on his debut here last week. The Wolfhound colt showed up well for much of the seven-furlong trip, before lack of condition took its toll. This drop in trip won't hinder him and if Savitsky fails to deliver, he could be the one to take advantage. Richard Hannon saddles a couple of likely sorts in Piccleyes and Nick's Grey, but while they are respected, neither have achieved enough to suggest they are up to winning a maiden and their future looks to lie in nurseries, so this looks best left to Savitsky to lose his maiden tag.
