In depth
Verdict
Cold Turkey lines up in fine form and can add to his tally, with Appleacre, Rasid and Compton Eclaire set to be his main rivals. Trainer Gary Moore nominated the Cesarewitch as a likely target after Cold Turkey's victory at Goodwood in October, but the three-year-old bypassed the hustle and bustle of that tough Newmarket contest to run here at Lingfield instead two weeks ago. Once again partnered by Simon Whitworth, he came wide off the final bend and possibly hit the front too soon, hanging on by a head in the end. That was in handicap company and he now reverts back to taking on the claimers, so should surely have too many guns for this lot. Appleacre is not as well treated on the all-weather as on Turf and seems to have gone off the boil of late, while Rasid has to give the most weight away. That leaves Compton Eclaire as maybe the fly in the ointment, as he meets the selection on three-pound better terms for a beating of less than four lengths here last time. Gerard Butler will continue to churn out the winners during the winter, so his challenger looks a must for the frame at least. However, we much prefer Cold Turkey who can complete a hat-trick before being sent hurdling.
