In depth
Verdict
From a shortlist containing Stroller, Screenplay, Garrigon, Kabeer and Armatore, we will side with Screenplay. Looking at the field and Stroller is a well-bred Irish import now with James Fanshawe who must be given some thought, and maybe the betting will provide clues. Wild Pitch showed some improvement last time but the form equates to no more than a rating in the high 50s. Screenplay's form rates higher and, with course and distance form to his name, has to be given a chance. The Barney Curley-trained Le Soleil failed to shine on his all-weather debut here, finishing behind Bobby Charles, while Heron's Wing showed some promise on his debut and, with his dam a half-sister to Celtic Swing, should have better to come in time. Garrigon's form rates solidly at around the 60 mark and he acts here, and Kabeer, who has shown fair form here at seven furlongs, is sure on breeding to appreciate the step up in trip today, so don't rule him out of things. Finally. Armatore found all bar Bobby Charles too good for him at Wolverhampton last time, and a bare reading of that form gives him some sort of chance too. In fact, if taking literal Bobby Charles formlines, Screenplay has three of four lengths in hand over Armatore and Le Soleil looks well held. With this in mind, we spin back to the selection which is, indeed, Screenplay.
