Verdict
A poor contest for a Showcase Handicap, with the top-weight St Ivian rated just 72. A winner over this trip at Southwell, he has looked a bit of a character in the past and it would be something of a surprise if he was good enough giving weight away all round. With the stalls placed on the stands' side it could prove beneficial to be drawn high and in stall 10, Tripti looks to be well placed. She has done most of her racing over the minimum trip, but on her last outing at Newmarket she gave definite signs that this six-furlongs could be right up her street, when a fast finishing third to Go Polar, in what was a strongly run contest. The fourth that day Chico Guapo has since gone in at Chester, so the form looks sound enough and with Kieren Fallon keeping the ride, she looks the one to be with. Willie Muir has his team in fine order at present and Singularity looks sure to give a good account, without actually winning, as he has had plenty of chances, but finds it difficult to get his head in front. The main danger could prove to be Mimic, who has several decent efforts to her name, including when touched off at Kempton last time in what was a soundly run contest. She has the plum draw next to the rails and will be difficult to beat. However, this trip may bring about some improvement from Tripti and with that in mind, she gets the vote.
