    Verdict

Not a race to be dogmatic about but as Avit is less exposed than most he gets the nod over Maromito, whose decline has been rapid and shows no signs of abating even though he ran a fair race in defeat at Wolverhampton last time. Law Maker, Onefortheboys and Bali Star are others that are hard to enthuse about and passed over today. While it would take an act of considerable faith to side with Mangus as he attempts to halt a losing run that stretches back to December 1999. Therefore, Second Generation and Philly Dee are expected to scrap it out as the best of the rest - with the latter just preferred as she gets a handy allowance as the only filly in the line up. However, Avit has shown enough in recent starts to suggest that a race of this nature is his for the taking and, as John Egan keeps faith with him tonight, he should make the most of a good opportunity to shine in this company.
