Verdict

Gulchina can make experience count over Scutch Mill, with newcomers Inside Story and Resplendent Nova ones to note in the market. Gulchina, a half-sister to Phantom Breeze, was a promising fourth at Newmarket on her debut in October, and on the strength of that was sent off a warm order on her comeback run over the course and distance in December. She may well have not been sharp enough as she only got into top gear when it was all over, eventually finishing runner-up to Glinting Desert, but she will be a lot straighter now, and with a plumb draw in stall one, can make amends under Richard Quinn. Scutch Mill kept on well for fourth on his recent debut here and so should improve over the extra furlong. He makes more appeal than the other exposed challengers, but Jeremy Noseda's newcomer Inside Story should be watched in the betting along with Resplendent Nova from the Terry Mills yard. Gulchina is the one to be on on this occasion though.
