In depth
Verdict
Rift Valley took advantage of a lenient mark last time and looks set to follow up today, with Water King and Astyanax put forward as the main rivals. The Philip Hobbs trained gelding couldn't have been more impressive in that Wincanton event, kicking clear on the home turn before easing down to beat Roman Court by ten lengths. A seven pound penalty shouldn't be enough to stop the follow up today. Astyanax is making his handicap debut after showing promise in top novice events. He isn't too harshly treated and should be involved in the finish. As should Water King who has been unlucky to finish runner up on his last three outings. He never gets beaten far and should make the places. Best of the others should be Vicario, but Rift Valley still seems well ahead of the handicapper and is confident choice.
