In depth

Verdict

Gold Mount is a very intriguing candidate under Ryan Moore. A Royal Ascot winner for Alan King back in 2016, he's competed at the highest level in Hong Kong without quite reaching the heights but racing there is confined to a maximum of 1m4f and connections believe he'll be suited by the extra. USA raider Platinum Warrior has a similar profile as he's another confined to much shorter trips in his home country and last month's Grade 2 success at Santa Anita came over 1m2f. He beat subsequent Irish Derby winner Latrobe over that trip at the Curragh last May when trained by Michael Halford. Red Galileo and Prince Of Arran were rank outsiders when well beaten behind triple winner Vazirabad last year though this isn't as strong a field. Prix Du Cadran winner Call The Wind stays forever and had a prep-run on Polytrack at Chantilly earlier this month. Connections will be happy with the recent rain and he can go well but Charlie Appleby looks as though he has the answer. CROSS COUNTER is probably still improving despite winning at Ascot and Goodwood last summer. He stepped up to this trip for the first time in the Melbourne Cup and won with a bit in hand. He can prove too good for stable companion Ispolini, though he confirmed his incredible progress with a 10l victory in the Group 3 Nad Al Sheba Trophy over 1m6f last month.
