In depth

Verdict

A competitive heat where obvious contenders are Luscivious, Nickel Silver and Lesley's Choice, but it may be worth opposing them all with DOCTOR PARKES. Paul Hanagan has been booked for the mount by Eric Alston, and the Diktat gelding has enjoyed two of his three turf wins on today's description of good ground, with all that trio being over the minimum trip. Admittedly he has been a bit in-and-out this year, but he has the ability to go very close from this mark and we will side with him. Luscivious has won two of his last three including an easy success from today's mark of 86 at Southwell on Tuesday. He is not usually quite up to that level on turf, where he also prefers some rain, but if that comes his chance would improve. Nickel Silver has not been seen since winning at Lingfield in February. He handles good ground on turf, and he is another whose mark on the green stuff is not as high as that on the artificial surfaces. If he could repeat that back on turf he would look well handicapped, but that is open to doubt. Lesley's Choice has done almost all of his winning on the all weather surfaces, but he has won on turf once from a higher mark than today's and on good ground, so those wanting to side with Linda Perratt's in-form runner do at least have some history on their side. However, Doctor Parkes looks to have a few things in his favour too and we will side with him.
