Verdict
A competitive race in which recent winners We'll Meet Again, Skiddaw Jones and Kirkham Abbey are sure to be popular. We'll Meet Again took advantage of a lenient handicap mark to land a prize over seven furlongs at Thirsk. Disappointing over further last term, the breeding suggests that nine furlongs shouldn't be beyond him and we will give him a tentative vote to follow up for Dale Gibson. Skiddaw Jones scored at 50/1 on his last racecourse appearance and certainly won't be trading at those odds today. He is held in high regard by his trainer but a 9lb rise looks harsh for a win in such a modest contest. Michael Jarvis won't have many horses with such a low rating as Kirkham Abbey but he has earnt his corn this term with two victories on the all-weather. His turf form does leave him with a couple of questions to answer and on breeding, it is possible that he may have preferred a little more cut in the ground. The market should serve as the best guide. Call Of The Wild and Miss Ocean Monarch have had plenty of chances but have become frustrating to follow. A more likely danger looks to be Burley Firebrand. His recent third at Nottingham was his best effort to date and his odds are likely to be quite sizeable given that the stable are not in the same form as they were earlier in the season. However, a 4lb rise for a recent success does not look harsh for We'll Meet Again and we will offer him as our selection in this tricky handicap.
