Verdict
Newnham should prove hard to beat, with Swift Sailor and Day One his only serious rivals. Luca Cumani's colt has twice been runner-up from just three starts to date, at Windsor and more recently Chepstow. He looked all over the winner last time but failed to change gear and was brushed aside by Dune Raider. That was disappointing, but maybe the softer ground will bring his stamina into play, and he will certainly get every help in the saddle from Kieren Fallon. Swift Sailor should appreciate the step up in trip judged on his staying on debut third behind Marias Magic at Bath, and this son of Slip Anchor will get better in time. Day One seemed not to stay when fading behind Turnstile at Goodwood, so he in contrast will probably appreciate the drop back in trip. None of the others here make any appeal, and from the trio mentioned, Newnham is the pick.
