Verdict

Modernism is up just 3lb for last month's Wolverhampton victory, though had an engagement there yesterday. Persian Steel produced a real shock in a maiden here last time when an 81-rated performer was a long way back in fourth so, if that form can be believed, he would have an obvious chance. Winning hurdler Lac Leman ran his best race on the Flat since arriving from Germany when tackling two miles here last time but Major Rowan, who has a cracking all-weather record, went up an incredible 13lb after a facile victory over the track and trip in August. HIGH ON LIGHT, three times a winner on Turf in the summer, reappeared to dead-heat here in December then only just failed to concede 5lb to Favorite Girl at Wolverhampton. David Barron's consistent filly gets the nod as though Genres showed improved form to land an amateurs' contest here last month he's up 6lb in this higher grade.
