In depth
Verdict
Len Lungo's Huka Lodge appreciated every yard of the three-mile trip here last time and may not be so effective over today's shorter trip so preference is for Lik Wood Power, who gets the verdict over the consistent Touch Closer and recent Sedgefield winner Fairy Skin Maker. The last mentioned was making a winning debut in a handicap that day and has to be respected under a 7lb penalty but this looks tougher. Touch Closer has run well off a similar mark to today's off late but remains a shade high in the weights at present so preference is for Lik Wood Power. Richard Guest's gelding went into many peoples notebooks when chasing home Mamboesque at Huntingdon last month and it was a disappointment when he was only sixth at Folkestone last time. However, that was over three miles and the son of Bigstone should appreciate the return to today's trip. The Steve Gollings-trained Jack Martin looks to face a stiff task on his first start in a handicap, along with Barton Hill, while Howard Johnson's Del Trotter looks fully exposed. Of more interest then may be Chris Grant's Roobihoo, who is less exposed than most and was an unlucky early departure on his handicap debut last time. However, Lik Wood Power looked a horse to keep on the right side of at Huntingdon and he gets the nod.
