Verdict
Probably not as competitive as the size of the field would suggest and the vote goes to General Duroc. Richard Phillips has his stable in excellent form at present and the master of Jackdaws Castle should be on the mark here with the lightly raced son of Un Desperado. The seven-year-old stepped up on previous efforts when a highly promising fourth behind the smart Palua in the mud at Folkestone last week and shapes as though this stiffer test of stamina will suit ideally. Lambhill Stakes has shown enough ability to suggest that he will have little difficulty in landing a race of this nature in time but has yet to race on ground this testing and there remains a major doubt that the son of King's Ride will be seen to best effect on such a surface. Old Rolla stays well and will handle the conditions but his overall form leaves him with something to find on these terms while Capricorn made little impact on his hurdling debut last month and needs to show significant improvement to figure in the finish.
