In depth

Verdict

Richard Fahey can plunder this prize for the north with Philharmonic, who can beat Two Step Kid and Red Romeo. The selection put up some sterling performances at a juvenile and ran an excellent race on his seasonal debut, coming late from off the pace to be nearest at the finish in the Gosforth Park Cup at Newcastle. He'll improve on that effort and is very much one to bear in mind, particularly now stepped back up to six furlongs. Two Step Kid was most impressive when landing a class B handicap at York last month and being very lightly raced is open to plenty of improvement. Down at the bottom of the handicap Red Romeo catches the eye, he was most impressive when slaughtering a modest field at Pontefract, before accounting for some better sorts at Windsor last week. He still looks fairly treated and will go close under the champion jockey. Many others can be given consideration including James Fanshawe's Traytonic, but Philharmonic has very strong claims and gets our vote.
