Verdict

Denton is respected under his winners' penalty however AGAPANTHUS looks fairly handicapped still and is fancied to see off strong challenges from Lord Theo and Knotgarden. Barney Curley's gelding was well-held when last seen in the Cumberland Plate at Carlisle in June but on his earlier wins at Brighton and Sandown he is respected. This mark of 75 looks manageable and with rain not likely to be too much of a problem he is fancied to run a big race unless the market screams otherwise. Denton won tidily at Haydock for Simon Pearce and his 5lb claim will come in useful as the horse looks to defy top-weight, Lord Theo runs this track well and he caught the eye in defeat here last time out having been easy enough to back, whilst Manshoor looks well-handicapped and any market support would look significant. Knotgarden is an unexposed filly who had to dig deep to fend off My Manikato at Yarmouth last month. That form needs improving on if she is to defy a mark of 71 however her previous maiden form is stacking up well and she has the services of Kieren Fallon aboard today. Neil Callan won on Calahonda the last time he sat on her, Saviour Sand is consistent and looks fairly handicapped still, whilst Dynamic Idol is unexposed and respected although the drop in trip might be a negative. Zubova probably found the ground too slow at Ffos Las recently and might be worth another chance, Coiled Spring looks thrown-in racing off 63 if he takes to the visor, whilst Broughtons Paradis and Laconicos are consistent and likely to give backers a good run for their money. An interesting and competitive handicap then that can go the way of Agapanthus.
