Verdict

SPACE WAR looks attractively weighted and can defy his inexperience to get the better of Thabit and Secretive in a race that may not be as competitive as the numbers suggest. Space War has to prove that he has the game to cope with a large field of experienced handicappers but he has looked a potentially smart performer in his two starts this summer and could have too much class for the opposition. His debut third at Lingfield, where he was noticeably green, was boosted when the winner went on to land a handicap from a mark of 82 at the weekend whilst the third home in his maiden win won as he liked next time. That horse was trained by Michael Jarvis who is responsible for the equally unexposed Thabit and he appeals as the main danger following an impressive win at Haydock from a decent yardstick with the fourth a winner of his maiden since. That pair make by far and away the most appeal although Secretive has to enter calculations on the form of his Britannia fourth, Huzzah is on a fair mark and has plenty of big race experience whilst this sort of test may help to bring out the best in New Christmas but Thabit and Space War are the two that interest us and the latter gets the nod.
