Verdict

Three-year-olds have only won two of the last ten renewals but are well represented by a trio of Ballydoyle entries and a classy contender from Spain in Noozhoh Canarias, who led a brilliant 2000 Guineas field for a long way before tiring in the closing stages. Due Diligence did most things right in the Diamond Jubilee but couldn't quite contain SLADE POWER. He is probably the pick of the Aidan O'Brien contingent but the winner has confirmed his status at the highest level and that victory just shades that of his stablemate Sole Power's success in the King's Stand Stakes. Aljamaaheer, who was a close third in the Diamond Jubilee, showed his versatility that day as his last success came in Ascot's Summer Mile in September. We've seen enough of Wesley Ward's sprinters to know that Undrafted wouldn't be without a chance though he's only a Grade 3 performer in the USA and though Cougar Mountain has a massive task after just one run in a maiden there are plenty at Ballydoyle who believe he's a Group 1 winner waiting to happen.
