Verdict

The 2001 winner Distant Prospect has been well backed with the rain having come in his favour but a draw in stall three is a concern and preference is for Mirjan who gets the vote over Mr Ed. The last mentioned has been the subject of strong support in recent days but is more exposed on the flat than the selection and represents no value in the market now. Handicap king Sir Mark Prescott saddles three and, with No Refuge facing no easy task under the burden of top weight, his best claims may lie with Astyanax, who is preferred to Tempsford. The William Haggas-trained Escayola is, like Amanda Perrett's Tungsten Strike, well treated at the weights but not certain to handle the soft ground and of more interest may be Penny Pictures. Martin Pipe has done well with his runners here before and this gelding makes more appeal than stablemates Dubai Seven Stars and Mujalina, with the last mentioned reappearing after a three-year absence. The vote though goes to a horse from another predominately jumps yard, Len Lungo's Mirjan. The eight-year-old sprung a surprise when landing Newcastle's Northumberland Plate when last seen in June but despite his years, remains unexposed on the level. With ground conditions to suit and the bonus of a decent draw, the son of Tenby gets the nod in the second leg of the Autumn Double.
