Verdict
COUPE DE VILLE would probably have beaten stablemate Chandlery at Goodwood had he not swerved coming out of the stalls. Richard Hannon's colt can gain compensation here though Mehdi also shaped with a deal of promise on his debut at Leicester, where he finished two places ahead of Universal, and will know more today though it's interesting Martin Dwyer has opted to ride newcomer The Blue Banana instead. Protect may need more time but Ex Oriente could be interesting on debut and a market move for Marco Botti's King's Best colt Right Regal would be significant. Sir Henry Cecil has entered Stateos but his pedigree suggests he won't come into his own until tackling middle-distances.
