Verdict
With the rain coming in time, Kaluana Court, and following her very good fourth in the Brown Jack Stakes on Friday, comes here in good heart and gets the nomination. She is also the only course and distance winner in the contest and, despite being nine pounds higher - less her good rider's three pound claim - than for that success, she can score. All of her course wins have come at this time of year. The danger is Sphinx, whose fourth to Sergeant Cecil at Sandown last time grants him considerable respect. John Dunlop and Kieren Fallon team up with Star Cross, a Nottingham two-year-old winner but disappointing since. Expected Bonus also won as a juvenile but has run modestly since. A return to the form that saw Bojangles finish second to Spinnette (who has been Group 2 placed since) last July when with Henry Cecil. Two disappointing runs since mean the jury is out on the colt, although he steps up in trip, which could help. Homelife finished over 15 lengths behind the selection at Newmarket in July, but is now 10lbs better off. Although he is theoretically well handicapped on his winning form of two years ago, we'll side with Kaluana Court. In her absence, Sphinx would get the vote.
