In depth

Verdict

The selection is Rathlin Island with the dangers being Baranook, Santo Subito and Villa Maria. Rathlin Island, trained by Karl Burke has not been on a racecourse since last September but at that time ran a good second at Hexham behind Catch The Perk. That form, if he can reproduce it first time out this season, could be good enough to take this event. Baranook, trained by Bernard Llewellyn has bits and pieces of form and his run at Exeter recently was an improvement on his previous efforts. If making further strides he can play a part here. Santo Subito is a newcomer trained by Robert Stronge and owned by Sir Clement Freud. This Presenting gelding wouldn't have to be anything special to make an impact in this contest. Sylvester Kirk doesn't have many runners over the jumps but Villa Maria makes his first appearance over hurdles here having not shown much in three bumpers. The selection is Rathlin Island to overcome a long absence.
