In depth

Verdict

A 6lb penalty may not stop TASTE THE WINE after registering a confidence boosting win last month. Lombok and Clippity Cop can also be considered as shortlist material at this level. The last named won on his debut at Southwell in March and created a favourable impression in the process. However, he was a tad disappointing last time out. Admittedly, he did meet trouble in running at Bath so may be a bit better than the bare form suggests. Lombok will again have the assistance of Jamie Spencer. He has scope to improve for the step up in trip and is one to seriously monitor in the betting. However, Taste The Wine posted by far his best effort when winning at Chepstow eight days ago and, as the manner of that success created the impression that he has plenty offer now stamina is the issue. Taste The Wine has a solid chance of following up in this company.
