In depth

After a most promising debut, CLAN ROYALE was backed as if defeat was not contemplated at Goodwood in late May but could only manage third spot. Subsequently gelded, the Varian inmate returns to action here and is well worth another chance, especially when taking into account his initial run when second to Expressionist. No Mercy will not make life easy after posting a quartet of likeable efforts but Upstate New York disappointed last time at Chester, though should appreciate the extra furlong here and is not one to give up on. Danyah and Panic Room are newcomers of interest and it will interesting to see how they fare in the market.

Clan Royale 1-3fav (9-5) Broke well and went left start, led, headed over 1f out, stayed on same pace, 3rd of 7, 2 1/4l behind Wild Thunder (9-5) at Goodwood 6f stks (4) gd in May.

Danyah (IRE) Invincible Spirit colt out of Cuis Ghaire.

Lilkian 7-2 (8-12) Took keen hold, close up, short of room over 2f out and lost place, ridden and rallied inside final furlong, 4th of 8, 14 1/2l behind Ikigai (8-7) at Yarmouth 7f stks (6) gf in Jul.

No Mercy 4-1 (8-12) Tracked winner, ridden and every chance over 1f out, no impression inside final furlong, 2nd of 8, 1 1/2l behind Troubador (9-7) at Thirsk 6f (3) gd in Jul.

Panic Room (IRE) Cappella Sansevero colt out of Varnay.

Pull Harder Con 150-1 (9-2) Behind, outpaced over 2f out, driven and kept on inside final furlong, never near leaders, 8th of 14, 10l behind Sir Boris (9-9) at Nottingham 6f stks (5) sft in Aug.

Upstate New York (IRE) 2-1 (9-4) Mid-division, headway 3f out, soon not much room, driven and edged right over 1f out, one pace and no impression, 5th of 7, 9l behind Dr Simpson (8-13) at Chester 5f stks (4) gd in Jul.
