In depth

Verdict

A large turnout for the finale, but it may boil down to the two recent winners, On The Trail and David's Mark, with preference for the latter. David's Mark was given a great ride by Frankie Dettori when returning to the winner's enclosure at Windsor a fortnight ago. He got to the rail and resisted a host of challenges to hang on, and should get a similarly strong ride by Kieren Fallon from his high draw. If the pace is on the far side though, then On The Trail is very much one to consider. David Chapman's seven-year-old gained his first turf victory over the course and distance 11 days ago, and has no more to do in this slightly lower grade event. Of the rest, Robwillcall can chase David's Mark through on this side, while Fenwick's Pride, Bella Beguine and Fairgame Man may all show up well on the far side. Petite Mac comes from a stable that has been sending out some big-priced place animals lately, and should come on for this belated return, but in an open contest, David's Mark is the pick.
