Verdict

Custom Cut has won 13 times including at Group 2 level and though very much on the downgrade he's dropped to his lowest mark since 2012. AWAKE MY SOUL had been running well before a convincing victory at York and though up 5lb looked to have enough in hand to defy the extra. The three-year-old Piece Of History has only had five runs and won twice though a 5lb rise for finishing second at Kempton looks harsh. Mikmak has continued to go well in better company despite a 7lb rise for winning at Thirsk while Hasanoanda, three times a winner for John Gosden, will be better for his opening run for Ben Haslam at York. The selection's stable companion Empress Ali is up to this grade and has had a light campaign and her latest run at Chester should be ignored.
