In depth

Verdict

Grand But One looks the one to be on in this ordinary maiden, with Rouge Et Noir a probable danger and a close eye on the market also advised. The selection is drawn well and has the form on the board to break his duck. Admittedly his latest effort at Newmarket was slightly disappointing when beaten at odds on for the second time, and he is no racing certainty, but if he can reproduce his running when second over course and distance to Lucayan Legend in May then he should be up to it. Roue Et Noir looks dangerous on his Flat race debut, despite top weight. Mary Reveley's charge comes here fit after a very good run in a Market Rasen bumper last week but is drawn poorly. That was a pretty good bumper for the time of year and the gelding must be taken seriously in this company, though this is much shorter and speed is a bit of a concern from this draw. Nothing else really stands out so we must take the market into account with one or two yards who like to have a punt having declared runners, but we will side with Grand But One to land the prize.
