      Verdict

      JEAN BAPTISTE scored in soft going over 1m2f at Newmarket in first-time cheekpieces. The headgear remains in place and George Boughey’s charge can go in again with a penalty nullified by an apprentice’s allowance. Bollin Joan will appreciate the return to soft ground having won over today’s trip at Catterick last year while Sociologist is a more recent winner at Thirsk though remains 7lb higher. Furzig finished behind the latter at Thirsk while both Pearl Beach and Carausius have done their winning at Southwell so far.
