In depth

Verdict

Wing Express looks sure to be suited by this step up in trip and with strong form already in the book, he can land this race off a mark of 105 at the main expense of Swan Queen and Tropical Strait. The selection has to give plenty of weight all-round, however he looks the real deal based on his performances last season, especially as he ran a fine second in a Listed contest at Newmarket. That single piece of form with Tranquil Tiger looks rock solid and above anything else in the line-up, and with the cut in the ground definitely to his advantage, he can take this before going on to better things, possibly in Group company later on in the season. Tropical Strait was progressive last season, and shapes as if he will get this longer trip although it isn't assured on breeding. He may need the run, but he looks to have a good season ahead of him. Winged D'Argent stays well and he knows how to win; further rain would be in his favour but he may just lack the class to score today. Paktolos represents Alan King who knows about stayers but the feeling is that the ground needs to be on the quick side, whilst Come On Jonny will have pleased connections with his reappearance run and can hopefully go on from there. Swan Queen was progressive last season and John Dunlop's mare has run well here before on ground that will suit, but she needs to bounce back having signed off with a lacklustre run at the end of last season. Don't rule out further improvement this season, however Wing Express is a horse with a future and he should win.
