Verdict
ERMINE AND VELVET should be capable of opening her account in this company although Primaeval shaped well on debut whilst Netta and Forward Planning may prove capable of better. It's debateable as to whether Ermine And Velvet's mark of 89 flatters her but she ran well enough when finishing in midfield in a competitive Newmarket handicap to banish the memory of a poor display in a Listed race at Warwick. This isn't a strong race and she probably won't need to run to that mark to win it. Primaeval made a pleasing debut in a Doncaster maiden that has worked out well but the winner's subsequent handicap success came from a mark of just 75 and he was rated 72 at the time so the amount of improvement required is evident. Forward Planning failed to justify the billing of favourite on debut but it would be no surprise if she were able to leave the form behind in due course. Netta was hardly a bargain buy at 50,000 guineas and she has shown promise on both starts but her future lies in handicap company and she may prefer more ease in the ground. Cut may also favour Brother Cha who shaped promisingly in a decent maiden and he's one of the more interesting runners whilst Sydneysider's juvenile efforts also earn a mention but Ermine And Velvet should have them covered.
