In depth

Verdict

The short list contains Heaven Knows, Salt Man and In Full Cry, with the vote going to Heaven Knows. Much as he is said to like cut in the going, Heaven Knows is pretty well regarded by connections and he confirmed himself a decent performer with a heavy-ground Thirsk win last time. He looks set to go well again. Count Trevisio was well beaten on his juvenile handicap debut so it would be hard to say that he's well-weighted now. John Terry did not look straightforward on his handicap debut here last time, but he still ran well and can do so again despite his five-pounds rise in the ratings. Salt Man was overfaced in the Feilden Stakes last time but must be well thought of to have been entered there, while, with the second, third, fourth and fifth from the race having won since, In Full Cry has to be respected based on his Ripon maiden debut win. Speedy Sam's win last time came on the all-weather at Southwell, and this looks tougher. Finally, Tumbleweed Glory has shown promise but flopped in first-time blinkers last time, and Velvet Valley, of course, is open to improvement from the Sir Michael Stoute yard. Overall, though, we will stick with Heaven Knows.
