      Verdict

      Sir Michael Stoute has won this three times in the past nine years - all with short-priced favourites. ARAB SPRING faces very stiff competition and has a Group 3 penalty for his victory in the John Porter at Newbury but he looks the type to go on to much better things and is already fancied for the Coronation Cup. Tryster completed a five-timer in the All-Weather Middle-Distance Championship at Lingfield, having already won the Winter Derby there, and there's no reason why he won't be just as effective on tonight's quick going though any rain could scupper his chances. Western Hymn escapes a Group 2 penalty for his victory in France last summer but still won at this level on his reappearance here last month where he had Tullius 7l behind. The runner-up, Postponed, was narrowly beaten in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at the Curragh on Sunday so the form looks strong. Eagle Top has also won at Group 2 level though that was in the 1m4f King Edward VII Stakes and that could prove his optimum trip this season. Niceofyoutotellme is a very useful handicapper but looks just short of this grade.

      Western Hymn 7-2 (9-0) Tracked leader, every chance over 2f out, led over 1f out, hard driven, stayed on well, won at Sandown 1m 2f Grp 3 (1) gd in Apr beating Postponed (9-0) by 3/4l, 5 ran.

      Eagle Top 4-1 (8-9) Held up in rear, pushed along over 3f out, pulled out over 2f out and driven into 4th 2f out, stayed on inside final furlong but never going pace of leading trio, 4th of 8, 5l behind Taghrooda (8-6) at Ascot 1m 4f Grp 1 (1) gd in Jul.
